Wilmington Youth Jazz Band

The Wilmington Youth Jazz Band (WYJB), under the direction of
Gerald Chavis, consists of Wilmington's finest young musicians aged
ten and up. We are a non-profit organization whose mission is to
expose, educate, and culturally enrich students through learning jazz
music in an effort to maintain and expand jazz throughout our
communities. This effort reaches youth from economically and culturally
diverse backgrounds.

We offer our students the opportunity to improve their improvisational
skills while developing the fundamentals of jazz musicianship in a fun
group ensemble setting. We have developed a ten week instructional
program in both the Fall and Spring, and a summer concert schedule
which serves to transform young students into confident jazz performers.

Clifford Brown Jazz Festival

The band will be performing at the Clifford Brown Jazz Festival on Saturday
June 24th at 2:00 PM. The festival is held at Rodney Square in Wilmington, DE.
We hope to see you there!

About WYJB

The WYJB was founded in 2004 by Wilmington's own Fostina Dixon-Kilgoe. Fostina was awarded a grant as an alumnus of Berklee College of Music to launch this program as part of the Berklee City Music Network. To learn more about our organization, please visit our About Us page
