Our Story

The Wilmington Youth Jazz Band is a Section 501(c)3 non-profit organization that has enjoyed past support by our corporate sponsors, private foundations, and the public for general operations and jazz education programming.

However, nothing is more crucial to our outreach and success than individual contributions. If you possess an appreciation for the talent cultivation of our youth – and for jazz music, America’s one true original art form – please consider donating to us. No amount is too small, and your generous donation may qualify as a charitable deduction for federal income tax purposes. More importantly, your donations help us to fund year-round jazz education programming, and enable scholarship opportunities to young people in communities who may not otherwise enjoy access to high quality professional music education.

History

In the 14 year history of the Wilmington Youth Jazz Band, our program has proudly graduated 100% of its school-aged participants, most of whom have proceeded to very successful four-year university programs in various academic disciplines. A number of our past graduates have been inspired to pursue careers as professional musicians, or have become music educators in their own right.  Your contributions help to enhance the latent talents of many young participants, and provide a light to expose the delightful, rich tradition of jazz music to a brand new generation of musicians

Our Partners

The Wilmington Youth Jazz Band is supported, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.

The Division promotes Delaware arts events on www.DelawareScene.com

The organization has also enjoyed the sponsorship and support of the Wilmington Flower Market.

Why Give?

Professional music instruction is expensive, and the cost of participating in an extra-curricular musical endeavor is often prohibitive for the families of many young people who would otherwise thrive in the performing arts if given the opportunity.

The WYJB strives to develop the latent talents of young people in our local communities. Your tax-deductible gift allows us to deliver our year-round jazz education programming to all students, regardless of their ability to pay. It also allows us to donate instruments to those students in need, and provide scholarships to young musicians of promise who aspire to further their musical education.
